SUmmer CHORAL INTENSIVE
CHOIR IS COMING!
IS THIS YOU?
The world is opening back up again. Rehearsals are going to start in September, and I only have a few months to get myself back into vocal shape. I wanna be able to show up on that first rehearsal day and have FUN singing again, not straining for that high note in the first exercise!
I haven’t sung in a year (or more!) and my voice is out of shape.
I’m worried about vocal stamina. I want to get back to choir feeling like my voice is in shape and be able to attend long rehearsals without feeling vocally fatigued.
Experiencing changes in my voice: I want confidence and to know that when I open my mouth that I’ll know what to expect.
I feel like I don’t recognize the sound of my own voice.
Sick of having choir directors telling me to sing with straight tone because when I sing with straight tone, it feels like it takes a lot of energy and effort, and my voice becomes uncomfortable and tired.
I want to bring the joy back to singing. I want it to be FUN again.
I want to understand vocal techniques so that when choir directors have me do weird things (like straight tone on WHAT PITCH??) I can create the result that the choir directors want without creating fatigue and tension in my voice.

WHY?
If you go into the season without getting your voice moving beforehand you may...
- Be vocally out of shape and singing in a choir rehearsal will be very vocally fatiguing, and this fatigue will compound throughout the year.
- You’ll sing for a long rehearsal, be exhausted vocally for days… and this creates a cycle of fatigue and muscle tension. In extreme cases it increases the instability in the voice and can create muscle tension dysphonia. You won’t know what’s going to happen when you open your mouth and it becomes uncomfortable to sing.
- This course will begin your journey back to trusting your voice. You’ll learn a new way to experience what singing feels like in YOUR body. That it can be joyous and easier. Years of muscle tension won’t go away in two months, but this is the perfect way to start recognizing patterns of tension, to build awareness that there are alternatives.
Why you, you ask?
- Choir singing is one of my favorite things. I.Love.Choirs. But I haven’t sung in a year!
- Singing is about coordination strengthening the muscles of the voice. If you have been working those muscles out then you lose the strength and coordination that you had before everything shut down. What if you were a runner and you stopped running for a year? You’d lose a lot of strength and coordination and if you tried to pick up where you left off a year or more ago, you’re likely to hurt yourself. I want to make sure that when I get back to choir that I know what sound is going to come out of my mouth and that I’ll have the stamina to make it through rehearsal.
Why me, you ask?
Y’all, this is my jam. I’ve been studying voice for almost 30 years (I even have my doctorate in singing!), teaching voice lessons and classes for almost 20 years, and I’ve directed choirs for ten years. I love working with women as their voices start to change and give tips and skills on how to navigate these changes without creating more instability and fatigue!! This is what I do. This is what I love. Let’s bring passion, joy and fun back to singing. YOU GOT THIS!
